THE RIDE OF SILENCE 2017
Delray Beach Florida at Old School Square Park. Police Escort Ride.
On May 17th, 2017 at 7:00 PM, BE THERE AT 6:30pm for ride instructions. The Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.
In 2003,Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed.
The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no national sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.
PLEASE JOIN THE RIDE IN DELRAY BEACH.
IF YOU RIDE A BIKE THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO SHOW RESPECT TO THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN LOST.
Remember riding your bike as a kid, going over curbs and rocks, riding in the dirt or grass, tackling any and all obstacles in your way (and yes, sometimes even wiping out)? Tap into that feeling again when you ride the trails!
These trails are described as intermediate, but many sections can be ridden (or bypassed) by a cyclist with decent skills and an adventurous spirit. So dust off, borrow or rent a “fatty” (fat tire bike!) and come out to a morning at the park. Bring lots of water and bug spray, and maybe a chair for chilling between/after runs. Trail riding can be a fun and liberating experience; come ride (and maybe even feel) like a kid again…
Meet Thursday December 17th at Old School Square for our first annual Holiday Lights Bicycle Ride. Bike helmet and light are required to attend. This event is free and open to the community.
Patrick Halliday and Irish McDonald cordially invite you to join us on Sunday, December 13th, 2015 for another “Easy-Breezy” “Historic Home Bike Tour” around Delray Beach!
Meet promptly at 8:30 AM at Old School Square.
Learn a little about Delray Beach history with comments from Patrick Halliday along the ride. All members of the community are invited to this free event.
